Ever wonder how close the rural San Mateo County area is to earthquake faults?  Well, check the map out below (thanks to the USGS, hopefully the USGS police won't take me away). 

The interesting thing is the San Gregororio fault runs inland, right by San Gregorio (guess the name makes sense then eh) then the San Andreas Fault runs smack dab through the middle of Portola Valley.   All things considered, there are worse places to be.
